Minutes from the April 17, 2008 Legislative Committee Meeting
MSV Foundation Claude Moore Physician Leadership Institute
The Institute is a participatory continuing education experience designed for up and coming leaders within Virginia’s physician community. The purpose of the Institute is to provide a trusted source of leadership development to produce a community of physician leaders who will work individually and together to effectively advance health and health care in Virginia. This project is one of only a handful in the nation which is devoted to providing physicians with ongoing, state-specific leadership training to strengthen their practical management skills. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA credit.

Women in Focus
Women physicians constitute over 30% of the local physician workforce. They face different kinds of challenges both in the workplace and in the home. To creatively face these obstacles and to work toward solutions to these issues, the Richmond Academy cultivates its commitment through our Women in Focus Section. We have over 75 members and are always expanding. The Section meets three times per year to discuss innovative ways and new solutions to workplace, home, and health issues. Through its growing network of concerned professional, the Women in Focus Section helps women in medicine by advocating for women and women's healthcare issues. Some recent discussion topics have included: Breast Reconstruction; Menopause and Peri-Menopause; Medicine in Russia; and Your Hot Hormones. Additionally, the Section is a co-sponsor of MCV's Women in Medicine Annual Conference. Come be a part of our team - the WIF Section is open to physicians and medical students interested in the advancement of women! Call Vicki Foster Miller, staff liaison, at 804.643.6631 for membership information.
The dues are:
RAM Member $50.00
RAM Non-Member $55.00
History of Medicine
The History of Medicine promotes the interest in and study of the cultural and historical side of medicine and related subjects. Drs. J.K. Hall, Beverly Tucker, and J. Powell Williams organized the Section of the History of Medicine in 1934 as a way to pay tribute to Dr. Walter Reed. Dr. Reed made the significant discovery of the mode of transmission of yellow fever, and helped to eradicate the disease.
Dues for the Section on the History of Medicine are $15 per year. Any Academy member interested in joining the Section should contact Jane Davis, staff liaison, at 804.643.6631.
